Homestay Information: |
- Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools will arrange for a legal Custodianship if needed, free of charge.
- All students registered in the International student program must live in an approved local Saskatoon homestay arranged/approved by the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools. Homestays are selected with care, screened closely, and regularly monitored. The cost of finding, screening, and establishing the original homestay is included in the tuition fee. It is important that applicants apply early enough that an appropriate and suitable homestay accommodation can be arranged.
- Homestays are chosen in safe and caring family homes. The student will get a clean, private room which includes a bed, bed linens, dresser, closet, desk and good lighting. Students are provided three meals a day, including a packed lunch for school. Students are responsible for their own personal items such as toiletries and shampoo.
- The student will be treated with respect and made to feel welcome by being included in family activities. English will be spoken in the home to give the student maximum opportunity to develop English language skills.
- A monthly homestay fee of $700.00 CAD, or portion thereof, is payable directly to the host family in advance on the first day of each month for the duration of the homestay. Long distance telephone calls are best made with calling cards or a separate telephone company credit account.
- The location of the homestay will have reasonable access to school and other activity centers by public transportation.
- A Saskatchewan Health Insurance application will be completed upon arrival,
if the student has a valid Study Permit. These benefits are free. They include physician visits and hospitalization. It does not include things such as prescriptions, dental, ambulance, etc.
- The applicant should notify the International Program Director of the date, time, and flight number of his or her arrival in Saskatoon. The student will be met at the airport, introduced to the host family, and introduced to the school. It is advisable that students arrive at least two days before beginning classes.
- Although we will help where possible, it is not part of the program to provide accommodation for visiting family. Visiting parents can sometimes be accommodated for a night or two at the homestay if the family has space and are willing; otherwise we will provide a list of hotels in the area. It is expected that visitors would remunerate host families $40 per night to defray expenses.
- Fax a completed Cost Information (PDF) form and the Homestay Information document to 1-306-659-2006
